At the feast of ego everyone leaves hungry.
You can live a lifetime and, at the end of it, know more about other people
than you know about yourself.
Enlightenment is ego’s ultimate disappointment.
The egos main goal is to keep you in a state of separation. It doesn’t care
how it achieves this goal, as long as it achieves it. Without separation the ego
cannot
exist. The ego is simply the idea that you are a separate self that exists
apart from the Universe. You may be rich, you may be poor or you may be sick or
even healthy. The ego doesn’t care. It uses everything it can to make you see
differences between you and others. Have you ever noticed how some people never
stop complaining about how much of a tragedy their life is, or how much life is
mistreating them? That is the ego at work. It is saying that I am a victim and I
am being mistreated by the victimizers of the world. Once you stop listening to
the egos lies and start to see Oneness all around you, all the opposites that
exist in this world will no longer be part of your reality. You will only
experience the constant Love, Peace and Abundance of God, which has no opposite.
One of the great dangers of transformational work is that the ego attempts to
sidestep deep psychological work by leaping into the transcendent too soon. This
is because the ego always fancies itself much more ‘advanced’ than it actually
is.
To be identified with your mind is to be trapped in time: the compulsion to
live almost exclusively through memory and anticipation. This creates an endless
preoccupation with past and future and an unwillingness to honor and acknowledge
the present moment and allow it to be. The compulsion arises because the past
gives you an identity and the future holds the promise of salvation, of
fulfillment in whatever form. Both are illusions.
Do not feed your ego and your problems, with your attention. ...Slowly,
surely, the ego will lose weight, until one fine day it will be nothing but a
thin ghost of its former self. You will be able to see right through it, to the
divine presence that shines in each of us.
There are several sorts of curiosity: a curiosity of self-interest, for
example, which makes us desire to learn things that may be useful to us; and one
of pride, which proceeds from an itch to know more than other people.
Our identity is very closely associated with our thoughts and feelings.
Usually, when we feel anger, we become angry. We are anger itself. When we feel
depressed, we are depression. When we feel greedy we are greed. It's easy to see
ourselves in the emotional 'guise du jour' and mistake this costume for who we
really are beneath it.
"Namaste" is an East Indian greeting (by putting the palms of the hands
together in prayer position) which means, "I respect the place in you that is of
love, of truth and of Light. When you are in that place in you, and I am in that
place in me, then we are one."
Remember, most of the things you think you need are ego trips designed to
bolster your image and your perception of security.... You'll waste a lot of
energy satisfying your ego only to find that, as soon as it's got what it wants,
it ignores all your efforts and promptly nails another list of demands to your
forehead. The ego will always try to force you to slave for its vision. I
wouldn't stand for that BS if I were you.
The ego problem is a result of a society that promotes exploitation. Being
better than, prettier and smarter than, or richer than, at the expense of
someone else, is an ego barrier. Only when a person confronts this problem,
recognizes and admits where they are, will there be a possibility for
constructive change.
In the secret cave of the heart, two are seated
